The MET Gala 2019: Pre-Event Guide
Everything you need to know before the first Monday of May

The MET Gala: Fashion's biggest yearly invite-only event. It takes place on the first Monday of May each year at The New York MET (you may recognize this from the steps where Blair eats lunch in Gossip Girl).
The biggest celebrities from of fashion, film, music and art come together to raise money for the Met's Costume Institute and to celebrate the grand opening of its newest exhibition. Watch the documentary on the 2015 Gala on Netflix for a more in-depth discovery of all things Met Gala.

Finally, this year's theme is : Camp: Notes on Fashion
So WTF is camp? Please do not let your mind wander to summer camp, because this has nothing to do with it.
Susan Sontag's essay, Notes on "Camp" breaks it down into 58 bullet points for anyone wondering. T
he contents of the exhibition will trace the origins of the subject from the 17th century, specifically the court of Versailles, to the present day. “Basically, we go from sun kings to drag queens,” American Vogue editor Anna Wintour said at a press conference in February.
Anna Wintour, the now former Editor-In-Chief of Vogue has been the event chair since 1995. This year the roster will include Lady Gaga, Harry Styles, Serena Williams, and Alessandro Michele (but will they ever top the Queen of the Met Gala herself, Rihanna???).
This year I hope to see all invitees participating fully in the theme as Rihanna does each year. This is a meeting of minds and culture and depicts fashion in its most exquisite stance: as art. Campiness began in the 1600s and has rooted from over the top style, irony, and above all, art. Watch this video for more on the Met Gala's Theme and take the quiz below to see more from each MET Gala before this year (shoutout Rih for making my list SO many times).
