GOOD
1. Misty Day (Lily Rabe)

Misty Day is a lover of all living beings (especially Stevie Nicks ) she lived in a swamp caring for the animals and resurrecting them from the dead. Some people thought her gift was a blessing, but others saw her as a threat and necromancer. She attended church one day and brought a dead bird back to life, she had been burned at the stake by religious extremists but resurrected herself and lived alone of the swamp. Because of this, witches contemplated whether to live in the public or hiding in New Orleans. The coven reaches out to her when they need assistance resurrecting Kyle, Madison, and Myrtle. Misty is attacked by Madison from the coven but still seeks to help them in their time of need. She participates in the seven wonders competition with 3 other witches and they all pass the first two tests of Telekinesis and Concillium, but Misty is unable to pass Descensum, in which she cannot bring herself out of her personal hell (which is a loop of her childhood biology class frog dissection) and she is faced with an eternity of emotional suffering.
Memorable Line:
"I've surrounded myself with the white spirit light to protect me. And even if you do put me down, I've already made plans on how to bring myself back."
Episode 10, "The Magical Delights of Stevie Nicks"
2. Queenie (Gabourey Sidibe)

Queenie shares blood with both the witches as well as the Voodoo tribe. Her personal power is that of a "human Voodoo doll" in which she can inflict injury upon herself and transfer that pain to another person. She was brought into the coven when one day while working at a fast-food restaurant, when frustrated with a customer, she put her hand into boiling fry oil and realized that it did not inflict pain on herself, but on the customer that irritated her. She is the only black member and the only plus-sized member of the coven and she is constantly ridiculed by Madison for her weight, leaving her to feel isolated and alone. When she travels into Decsensum, her personal hell depicts her not receiving any respect. When Delphine LaLaurie returned to society, Queenie gave her copious chances for redemption, despite her blatant racism, even forcing her to watch a civil rights documentary. And she even sacrifices herself to Delphine's tortured Minotaur in order to protect her, despite her relentless racism.
Memorable Line:
"You think I'm any less perplexed? I dragged my ass all the way here from Detroit to be with my, quote, "sister witches" and, instead, I'm sitting in a fast-food parking lot at 3 in the morning with an immortal racist. How'd that happen?"
Episode 7, "The Dead"
3. Cordelia Goode (Sarah Paulson)

Cordelia Goode is the Headmistress of Miss Robichaux's Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies (the coven) and rises as the newest Supreme. She is fiercely protective of the girls within the coven as they are under her care. She unknowingly married a witch hunter who was tasked with murdering the coven. Her goal was to have a child with him and underwent multiple fertility treatments under western medicine, witchcraft, and voodoo magic with no success. She was attacked with acid that disabled her eyesight but then allowed her to garner powers of visons into the past and future. Myrtle restores her vision but that rids Cordelia of her bonus powers, so she blinds herself again for the sake of the coven. Cordelia helps Myrtle in their plan to convince Fiona to commit suicide to allow for the reign of the next Supreme but is unsuccessful. When Cordelia passes the test of the Seven Wonders and her mother, Fiona falls into the grasp of her mortality Cordelia rises as the next supreme.

4. Myrtle Snow (Frances Conroy)

Myrtle Snow is a truth-telling witch who has an affinity for "green magic"- that of botanical mastery, illusionary manipulation, and honesty. She is the head of the witches council and because of this, she plays the role of the judge, determining who is good, and who shall be burned. As Fiona was unfit, she took on the role of a maternal figure for Cordelia. Early in her time in the coven, she had charmed Spalding's tongue, so that he could not tell a lie, this ultimately led to him cutting out his own tongue because the truth was too much for him to bear. Myrtle dedicates herself to finding the next Supreme for the coven, this leads her to hash a plan to make Fiona end her own life to allow for the Supreme to rise to power. To do this, using illusionary manipulation, she shows Fiona a future in which her lover leaves her because she held on to being Supreme for too long, but that did not convince her. Myrtle is accused of tampering with the Supreme role and is ultimately burned at the stake, but is then brought back by Misty. When Cordelia passes the test of the Seven Wonders and rises as the new Supreme, a new age is on the horizon for the coven as copious new witches arrive. Myrtle insists that Queenie and Zoe take her place as members of the council, and she is burned at the stake for the crimes she has committed throughout her life. Her vengeful acts are reflexive of her execution, but her ultimate goal is justice.
Memorable Line
"I've been swimming against the tide my whole life. Look where it got me. I used to be an outcast, a freak, until I found my place in this coven. I thought I'd come home, but I was wrong. I go proudly to the flame. Go ahead; burn me."
Episode 6, "The Axeman Cometh"
5. Zoe Benson (Taissa Farmiga)

Zoe is a witch that realizes her powers at the age of 17 when it is realized that whenever she partakes in intercourse, it causes her partner to hemorrhage until death. She is unable to control her powers in the beginning leading her to be afraid of even herself. She later uses this power upon Madison's rapist while he is in the hospital after a bus crash (caused by Madison) subjecting this man to her deadly curse. She meets Kyle at a frat party and is instantly enamoured with him. When she finds out he died in the crash, she utilizes a forbidden spell to resurrect him putting him back together by choosing the most desirable body parts from the severed limbs at the morgue. She seeks out Misty's help in his recovery and the two nurse him back to health, but because of the shoddy magic used, he is sent on a violent rampage. After realizing the monster she created within Kyle, she considers putting rat poison in his food, but it is not confirmed as to whether or not she executed this task. She tries again to murder him with a handgun, but he takes the gun and puts it to his own head, at that point is when she realized she could not bear to be without him. She teaches him English, trying to better integrate him into society.

"But one thing's certain: Nothing is immutable when the will of a strong woman is applied."
Episode 13, "The Seven Wonders"
6. Kyle Spencer (Evan Peters)

Kyle is a tricky character to analyze. He was the charismatic leader of his fraternity, and when his brothers raped Madison, he became extremely angry and tried to help Madison. He chases them onto a bus outside of the fraternity, and using her telekinetic powers, Madison tosses the bus through the air with ease, murdering or mutilating all those inside. Madison and Zoe put Kyle back together with all the best "boy parts", but when Kyle wakes from his death, he is sent into a violent rampage, murdering the first man he sees upon resurrection. He is in a traumatized and almost infantilized state, unable to decipher right from wrong. Zoe brings him back to his mother, who was grieving from his death, and obviously shocked when he presented in front of her, and it is revealed that he had been sexually abused throughout his life by his mother. In another spout of abuse, Kyle brutally murders her, and utters his new first words, "no", and "no Kyle" when he feels remorse for what he has done. When Zoe brings him back to the coven and tries to teach him how to communicate again, he is taken over by a violent rage. He clearly shows love for Zoe, but is unable to control himself, as exemplified with his sexual relations with Madison. During the Seven Wonders trials, Zoe makes a mistake resulting in her death, Kyle blames Madison for this problem as they had been fighting priorly and when asked, she would not resurrect Zoe. Kyle murders Madison for ridding him of his lover, and he subsequently murders her and buries her body, all while telling people that she had just left the Coven. Cordelia resurrects Zoe, and the two of them live in the coven together, Kyle as the butler and Zoe as a mentor.

BAD
7. Spalding (Denis O'Hare)

Spalding is a mute butler who lives within the coven. When Fiona murders the previous Supreme to rise to power, Spalding's tongue is charmed by Myrtle so that he must only tell the truth to the council, as he was the only witness to the event. He loves Fiona, and does not want her to be extricated by the council, so he cuts out his tongue so he is not forced to tell the truth about Fiona's horrible act. When Fiona murders Madison, suspecting her of being the next Supreme, Spalding helps her hide the body in his bedroom in the attic. He uses her body as his own personal doll, to dress, undress, and have tea parties with her rotting corpse, when Zoe, Queenie, and Nan find out about what he has done, they return his tongue and enchant it to make him tell the truth, he admits to everything he has been hiding and is subsequently killed.
Memorable Line
"These are my last words, Miss Fiona. I have always loved you."
Episode 4, "Fearful Pranks Ensue"
8. Madison Montgomery (Emma Roberts)

Madison is the resident bitch of the coven. She was a famous actress and her fame gave her a false sense of entitlement. She is spoiled, mean, and merciless. She holds the great power of telekinesis and discovered it when she could manipulate the assets on a film set to kill the director that was irritating her. Upon arrival at the coven, she torments Zoe, threatening her life by pinning her against the wall and pointing a knife at her head, completely unsolicitedly. She and Zoe went to a frat party in which she was drugged and gang-raped by the fraternity brothers (Kyle excluded). To get revenge, she uses her powers to throw the party bus they were inside of causing mass murder and mutilation. It is her idea to attach the most muscular and impressive body parts to Kyle during his resurrection, showing her emphasis on vanity. She is vain and verbally abusive to the other members of the coven. Her jealousy of Zoe ultimately leads to her demise when Kyle murders her because she would not help Zoe. She is subject to live within her personal hell (working retail) for all of eternity.

"Surprise, bitch. I bet you thought you'd seen the last of me!"
Episode 8, "The Sacred Taking"
9. Fiona Goode (Jessica Lange)

Fiona Good is evil incarnate. She tries to sell her soul to the Voodoo devil in return for immortality, but it turns out that she had no soul to sell in the first place. She is the Supreme before Cordelia takes the title and she is extremely reluctant to let go. She feels no remorse for all of the murders she commits, she fears nothing except death and the loss of power. The main thing that she detests is racism (at least she has one positive trait!!!). She takes the witches of the coven on a field trip to the infamous Delphine LaLaurie's grave and employs two men to take her coffin from the ground to reveal a very much alive LaLaurie, despite having being buried in the 1830s in order to find the secret to eternal life. She torments LaLaurie, punishing her for her heinous crimes, but subjects Queenie to spend time with her. Fiona realizes as her health begins to fail, that her reign of Supreme is coming to a close, but she does everything in her (vast) power to eliminate the threat of a rising Supreme, murdering all those who get in her way. Although, she was unsuccessful in her attempts and died peacefully in the arms of the daughter she neglected.
Memorable Line
"The point is, in this whole, wide, wicked world... The only thing you have to be afraid of is me."
Episode 2, "Boy Parts"
9. Delphine LaLaurie (Kathy Bates)

Delphine LaLaurie is a socialite from the 1830s that had been cursed with immortality and subjected to hundreds of years buried alive, and unfortunately, LaLaurie was based upon a real person. She loves two things in life, throwing parties, and torturing black slaves. She developed an insecurity about her appearance when she saw her husband's interest piqued in young women, so she developed a concoction to help preserve her youth. This concoction was created from fresh pancreas and blood, torn from the bodies of her enslaved prisoners kept in her home. Her favorite creation of all was Batisten, a former house slave in which she mutilated and kept in her attic. She forced a young slave to adhere a hollowed bull's head over Bastien's head and with the state of his mouth after the beatings, made him sound like w monster of her own making. She viewed black people as of no higher value than animals and continued her racist tendencies when she was brought back to civilization by Fiona, dismembering a black gardener on the coven's grounds.
Memorable Line
"You made me weep, but not as you would have it for my supposed sins. I wept for the state of this world, a world of lies, a world that makes promises it cannot keep. To tell a colored man that he can be equal to a white man, there's a real cruelty. I'm not going anywhere."
Episode 12, "Go To Hell"
